Library Policies
BEHAVIOR POLICY
The Scott County Library System is supported by the taxes of the people of Scott County who expect each of our facilities to be clean, comfortable, and safe places for selecting materials, reading, researching, studying, writing, and attending programs and meetings. The Library Board of Trustees has the authority under state law to establish reasonable rules and behavior guidelines for patron conduct while on Library property. Failure to comply with the following guidelines may result in loss of Library privileges and removal from Library premises.
DISPLAY POLICY
It is the mission of the Scott County Library System to make available library materials and information in a variety of formats to people of all ages. In keeping with the Library’s mission, there are areas available for posting information and displays. Granting permission to use the display areas does not imply endorsement or approval of the viewpoints expressed in the artwork or exhibits.
EXAM PROCTORING POLICY
The Scott County Library System offers proctoring services for Scott County Library System cardholders at no cost. For those students that live outside of our service area, there will be a charge of $10.00 per exam. The service is offered during normal business hours, and arrangements must be made a week in advance by calling (563) 285-4794. Priority for this service is given to the Scott County Library System cardholders, and Library staff reserves the right to deny requests based on staffing or facility constraints. The Scott County Library System will scan and email up to ten pages free of charge, and students will assume responsibility for costs if the scanning of the exam exceeds ten pages. INTERLIBRARY LOAN POLICY
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) in this case refers to the transfer of materials between SCLS and non-RiverShare libraries. Interlibrary Loan within RiverShare is governed by the RiverShare Circulation policy.
MEETING ROOM POLICY
Eldridge, Blue Grass, Princeton and Waloctt have meeting rooms available for use. Rooms are not available for commercial use, and they cannot be used for the sell of goods and services.

UNATTENDED CHILDREN POLICY
The Scott County Library System cares for the wellbeing of its young patrons and cannot be held responsible for incidents, accidents, or other liabilities arising from the actions of unattended children. Parents/caregivers are solely responsible for the safety and behavior of children while in the Library. Library staff cannot be held responsible for the actions of unattended children or any incurred consequences.
All patrons are expected to abide by the Library’s Behavior Policy. Children violating the Behavior Policy will result in Library staff speaking to the parent/caregiver about existing policy as a warning. If the child repeats the violation, both the child and parent/caregiver may be asked to leave the Library.
Children younger than the age of eight must be accompanied by and remain in the eyesight of an adult or someone at least fourteen years old. A child under the age of eight may participate in a Library program without an adult present, but the parent/caregiver must immediately join the child at the end of the program.
If a child is left unattended, Library staff will attempt to locate the parent/caregiver. If Library staff cannot locate a parent/caregiver, they are required to call the police. The Library is also required to call the police if a child is left unattended in the Library fifteen minutes prior to closing time.
