This is a follow-up to the media release by the Davenport Police Department concerning the two Officers that were involved in a shooting, which took place in the early morning of Sunday November 20th, 2017 in the 400 block of E12th Street Davenport, Iowa.

The Officers involved in the incident are identified as Officer Justin King who has been employed with the Davenport Police Department since December 17, 2012.  Officer Brenda Waline who has been employed by the Davenport Police Department since December 20, 1999.

The subject that was shot during the incident has been identified as Matthew Donald Tobin age 26, a resident of Davenport, Iowa who was pronounced deceased on scene. Investigations show that Matthew Donald Tobin was armed with a firearm and exchanged gunfire during the incident which resulted in Officer King being struck in the head.

Both Officers were transported to genesis east with non- life threatening injuries. Officer King underwent immediate surgery as a result of his injuries. An autopsy is pending for Matthew Donald Tobin.

An investigation by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office is on-going. There is no further information being released at this time.

 

Davenport Police Press Release:

On Sunday, November 19, 2017 at approximately 5:13 AM Davenport Police responded to 400 E 12th St in reference to a burglary in progress to a residence.

Officers confronted a subject inside of the residence where a physical altercation occurred. During the altercation an officer discharged their service weapon. The subject and both officers were injured. One officer was seriously injured and transported to the hospital. The name of the subject is not being released at this time. The names of the two Police Officers involved in the incident are not being released at this time, out of courtesy of notification to their families first. As a Davenport Police Department protocol, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office was notified and will investigate the incident. All further inquiries on this incident should be directed to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.
