Intended Audience: EMS Providers of all levels and Nurses in Emergency & Critical Care areas

The EMS Refresher Course is designed to provide current information helpful in providing quality patient care in the emergency medical service setting.

The content of the course is based on the Paramedic National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) that requires a total of 60 hours of continuing education to recertify. The model contains three components, or ‘buckets’: a national component, a local or state component, and an individual component. The national competency component requires all Paramedics to obtain 30 hours of continuing education. The topic areas for the national component is published by the NREMT every four years. The most recent revision of the National Component was published in October 2016.

Continuing Education Hours/CEHs: Eastern Iowa Community Colleges will award one continuing education hour (CEH) of Credit for each contact hour attended. CEHs earned will be applicable for renewal of an EMS Provider Certification/license in Iowa and Illinois. Attendance of the entire program will satisfy NCCP National Requirement.

Nursing CEUs: 3.4 Illinois and Iowa Nursing CEUs are only available on the Refresher certificate if purchased for an additional $10.00 through Eastern Iowa Community Colleges Iowa Board of Nursing Approved Provider No. 8.

Fees: The cost for the entire EMS Refresher Program is $150, or $50 PER DAY. Participant Handouts will be available at www.eicc.edu

Parking: Parking is available in the North East Lot. Parking is prohibited around the Heart Center. Parking is prohibited in the North Parking Ramp on Fridays only, but permitted on the weekends.

Electronic Devices: The use of Laptops, Headphones, MP3 players, IPODS, etc. is prohibited during presentations.
