The County is encouraging staff to participate in the United Way’s upcoming 21-Day Equity Challenge. Current nationwide issues make it more important than ever that everyone have a better understanding of what equity means in our community and country. The Department Heads and Elected Office holders are supportive of your participation in this training opportunity and will be participating.
Equity in the Quad Cities
Equity, or fairness or justice in the way people are treated, is a pillar for many of us in public service. Sometimes this requires us to offer additional assistance to an individual or find ways to make sure our programs and services can meet the varying needs of all in our community. The United Way is challenging our community to continue this line of thinking and doing so as a community. The United Way’s 21 Day Challenge encourages residents to join the community in changing habits to build and imagine a more equitable Quad Cities. This challenge is a virtual and commitment-minimal equity-related opportunity right here in our community.
The United Way of the Quad Cities 21-Day Equity Challenge to help build a stronger, more equitable community: When you sign up to take the challenge, you’ll receive daily emails that include suggestions for readings, podcasts and videos to further your understanding around power, privilege, supremacy, oppression and equity. You determine your level of participation and everything is virtual! Some days you might only have time to read the email. Other days you might be intrigued by a 10 minute Ted Talk that was suggested and watch it to get a much needed brain break. Either way, there’s nothing to lose by signing up!
