Once a month the Wapsi River EE Center will be hosting a day just for homeschoolers! Join us for programming led by our Naturalists!

The goal of this series is to immerse children in the natural world and help them experience seasonal phenomena in a hands-on way. Most appropriate for K-6th grades, though all ages welcome. Suggested donation of $1/student. Please come prepared for the weather because much of the planned programming will take place outdoors.

All About Bees

Body: 

Join Wapsi River Center staff for a fun program about Iowa's bees and the many benefits they provide us! This program will specifically focus on products that bees make.We will have a limited supply of a bee-themed trial product for participants to take home.

Adult Paint Class

Body: 

Join local (Eldridge) artisit Julie Wall from the Artist's Vault for a fun sunflower-themed painting lesson at the Wapsi Center. This program is suitable for ages 16 and up. All experience levels welcome! Admission is $35/person*. Fee covers all supplies, teaching, and clean up. 

*Fee payable by cash or check at the program.

Fall Ecology Day

Body: 

Join Wapsi RIver Center's Environmental Education Staff for a fun afternoon dedicated to the Great Outdoors! All ages welcome at this FREE program. There will be indoor alternatives in case of inlement weather. Registration is required please call 563-328-3286.​

  • 1 pm-1:45 pm ~ All About Bees
  • 2 pm - 3 pm  ~ Woodland I.D. Hike
  • 3:15 pm - 4 pm ~ Leave No Trace - Minimize Campfire Impacts with a special visit by Smokey the Bear

Monarch Festival

Join the Wapsi River Center staff as we celebrate Monarch Butterflies. We will have kid’s activities such as butterfly crafts, a photo booth, and education stations.There will be a monarch presentation at 12:00 pm., a prairie hike and butterfly catching and Monarch tagging and testing at 1:00 p.m.  This event is FREE and fun for the entire family, but registration is required. 2nd Annual Monarch Migration Fun Run

Body: 

Join the Wapsi Staff for its 2nd Annual Monarch MIgration Fun Run benefiting the Friends of the Wapsi Center. It is a 5K self timed trail run, with the run starting at 9:00 am. Check in starts at 8:00am. Registration includes a t-shirt & refreshments.

Registration closes on September 10th. Must register by August 21st to be guaranteed a shirt.

Announcing - 2022 End of Season Schedule

The end of season hours for the Scott County Park Pool are as follows:

  • Monday August 22nd through Monday, September 5th
    • Weekdays (Mon-Fri): Closed
    • Weekends (Sat-Sun): 12:00pm – 7:00pm
    • Labor Day (Mon): 12:00pm – 7:00pm

The pool can be reached by calling (563) 328-3282 ext 5. 

Herping Experience

Body: 

Come out and learn about some of the Reptiles and Amphibians that call the Wapsi River Center their home! Explore what makes a good habitat and look for wild herps first hand! This event will include a hike, please dress accordingly, bring water and bug spray, and be ready for a great time!

Please bring a flashlight.

Registration is required and limited so please call to reserve your spot.

Terrific Terrariums

Body: 

This program is FULL!

Do you want to learn how to observe an ecosystem from inside your own home? Come to the Wapsi Center and build your very own terrestrial terrarium! This is a wonderful program for people of all ages to learn how ecosystems function on a smaller scale.

Please bring a container (i.e pickle jar, cheeseball container, etc.) that you want to build your terrarium in.
