Counterfeit Opioid Drugs Found in Iowa

pills and pill bottle

The Iowa Department of Public Health, Department of Public Safety, Poison Control Center and Office of Drug Control Policy issued an alert today to warn Iowans of a new synthetic opioid drug that has been found in Iowa.  These counterfeit pills that have been made to look like prescription pain pill oxycodone were found to have much more powerful and dangerous opioids mixed within the pill.  There is no concern for prescription pain pills received from pharmacies.  Talk with children about safe use of medicines and report suspicious activity to local law enforcement.  All Iowans with questions about synthetic opioids can contact the Iowa Poison Control Center at 800-222-1222 or http://www.iowapoison.org
