Claim for Refund

If the vehicle is sold and no replacement issued:

  • Return the license plates (either mail to 600 W 4th St, Davenport, IA 52801 or use drop box in parking lot at the same address)
  • Indicate the date of sale, purchaser's name and address, and vehicle owner(s) name claiming the refund and phone number.
  • The Treasurer will process your claim for refund if received within 6 months of the disposal of the vehicle.
  • The Department of Transportation will forward the refund in 4-6 weeks.
  • A refund of less than $10.00 will not be granted.

If the vehicle is moved out of state:

  • Return the license plates to Scott County Treasurer, 600 W 4th St, Davenport, IA 52801.
  • Return copy of current out of state registration.
  • The vehicle owner(s) must sign Iowa DOT Claim for Refund Form 411047
  • The Treasurer will process your claim for refund if received within 6 months of registering the vehicle in another state.
  • The Department of Transportation will forward the refund in 4-6 weeks.
  • A refund less than $10.00 will not be granted.
