Job Summary

This is a customer service and clerical position that is responsible for assisting patrons and handling all desk procedures involved in the circulation of materials, as well as additional clerical duties to prepare and maintain materials and database information at the Scott County Library System.

The schedule is varied and includes rotating Saturdays.

Job Responsibilities

Provides direct high quality customer service.

Handles all steps of patron services, including library card registration, placing requests for books and information, search and retrieval of materials, checking in and out materials, and assisting with equipment troubleshooting.

Assists patrons with directional questions, promotes library services and programs, arranges materials in correct order and cleans library areas as needed.

Processes cash transactions accurately and maintains financial records and statistical data.

Prepares materials for circulation, mends damaged items, performs inventory, and withdraws materials from the collection.

Enters information into databases, maintains spreadsheets, and performs other clerical tasks.

Operates a variety of office machines, computers, electronic devices, and library equipment.

Learns and applies the policies and procedures of the Scott County Library System.

Other duties as assigned and/or needed.

Standards for Initial Consideration

Education:

High school diploma or GED required.


Work Experience:

Minimum of two years of customer service skills required. Previous library experience desired.


Essential Skills:

Attention to detail.

Ability to learn and follow adopted library procedures.

Ability to operate office equipment.

Proficiency with computers.

Ability to effectively convey information to members of the public and to other members of the library team.

Ability to work independently.

Supplemental Information

Schedule averages 18-21 hours per week, and may include a variety of night, and weekend hours. Primarily based at the Eldridge Branch but may include work on the bookmobile or other branch locations.
