Under general supervision, the Community Dental Consultant - Maternal, Child, and Adolescent provides direct services and connects pregnant and postpartum women, children, adolescents, and families to dental providers and resources. This position is grant funded.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Develops community partnerships with dentists and dental staff, medical providers and medical staff, and other groups, organizations, and coalitions in the community to build infrastructure to provide services for maternal, child, and adolescent health population.
Participates in health planning and needs assessment activities to build program referral networks and determine project goals.
Provides care coordination services to clients; responds to inquiries regarding dental care services, information, and oral health requests; provides advice regarding oral health to organized groups and individuals throughout the community.
Provides direct services in the Scott County Health Department Clinic and outside locations as needed; provides dental screenings, oral health education, caries risk assessments, and fluoride varnish to clients; collects and analyzes data obtained from performed services.
Facilitates oral health education and instruction to healthcare providers including school nurses, medical providers, school aged children, and medical students; facilitates a dental health focused workgroup with community partners, participates in community health fairs and community events that target the maternal, child, and adolescent population.
Orders and maintains an inventory of all oral health and marketing supplies.
Develops, implements, and coordinates specific dental prevention, promotion, and education programs; participates in community outreach and health promotion activities.
Maintains documents and files; updates database information to document program activities and direct services.
Participates in department efforts related to accreditation/reaccreditation, performance management, quality improvement, and workforce development.
Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
Associate's degree in Dental Hygiene; and one (1) year of clinical experience required.
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
Project management practices and methods.
Records maintenance and retention policies, procedures, and practices.
Community health resources and services.
Dental hygiene practices.
Oral health for pregnant and postpartum women, infants, children, and adolescents.
Public outreach methods and platforms.
Interacting tactfully and professionally with County staff, outside agencies, and the public.
Conducting dental health screenings.
Gathering and analyzing data.
Maintaining accurate records and documentation.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
