Job Summary

Under general supervision, interviews individuals who test positive for COVID-19, identifies and communicates with individuals who have come into close contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19. Provides information and guidance to prevent transmission of COVID-19. Utilizes multiple databases, web-based platforms, telephone, and other electronic systems to collect, enter, organize and communicate information. This is a temporary position.

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Communicates with cases and contacts of diagnosed patients through e-mail, phone calls and other platforms when necessary.

Talks with hospital infectious control practitioners (ICP) health care providers and or their staff.

Contacts Iowa Department of Public Health staff for guidance when needed.

Informs cases about isolation procedures.

Provides contacts with information on quarantine procedures, what to do if symptoms develop and if appropriate, refers them to testing.

Describes and educates on risk depending on the contact's underlying medical conditions, occupation, living situation and level of contact with case.

Assesses case/contact's ability to safely and effectively self-isolate or self-quarantine and makes recommendations and referrals as necessary.

Collects and records information in database.

Communicates with team and manager when unusual situations arise during the interview process or when trying to reach cases/contacts.

Attends and participates in a variety of internal and external meetings.

Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Standards for Initial Consideration

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent with up to three years of applicable community experience. Prefer Associate's degree or equivalent with up to two years of applicable experience OR Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with no experience.

Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.

Disease transmission, prevention methods, and treatment.

Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.

Records maintenance and retention policies, procedures, and practices.

Community health resources and programs.

Skill in:
Typing and entering data with speed and accuracy.

Operating a computer including standard software and some specialized software.

Interacting tactfully and professionally with County staff, outside agencies, and the public.

Maintaining accurate records and documentation.

Preparing clear and concise reports.

Working efficiently both independently and as part of a team.

Following policies, procedures and protocols.

Delivering information to individuals of varying ages and backgrounds.
