Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Golf Superintendent, the Equipment Mechanic- Golf maintains all golf course equipment to provide safe and functional equipment for golf course users and maintenance staff.

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Identifies and repairs equipment malfunctions; monitors and maintains parts inventory; maintains all service and repair records; participates in cleaning and maintaining the organization of the repair facility.

Implements a preventative maintenance program; follows manufacturer specifications and recommendations including repair of gas and diesel engines, pumps, motors, electrical systems, and specialized repair and maintenance adjustments of golf course equipment.

Identifies and reports any turf and insect problems; works with supervisors to determine the appropriate action to correct issues; identifies and assists with irrigations leaks and winterizing irrigation systems.

Assists in maintaining turf surfaces and operates all equipment involved; applies fertilizer, pesticide, and herbicide as needed.

Performs routine and preventative course and grounds maintenance.

Supervises and directs the work of seasonal employees; oversees and coordinates projects.

Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Standards for Initial Consideration

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND two (2) years of experience in grounds or equipment maintenance; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of:
Golf course equipment and irrigation systems.

Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.

Work safety policies, procedures, and practices. Tools, materials, equipment, and methods used to maintain golf courses.

Supervisory principles and practices.

Inventory management practices.

Skill in:
Diagnosing and repairing turf or landscape maintenance and golf course related equipment.

Operating a variety of equipment and hand and power tools safely.

Maintaining accurate records.

Working effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Supplemental Information

License and Certification Requirements
Must possess a Commercial Pesticide Applicator's license or obtain license within six (6) months of hire.
Must possess a valid Iowa Class-A Commercial Driver's license, or obtain within six (6) months of hire along with air brake endorsement.
Must maintain a First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is performed at a repair facility and throughout the golf course.
May be exposed to dangerous hand and power tools, equipment, and machinery, hazardous chemicals, and extreme weather conditions.
May be required to lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
