Job Summary

Under close supervision, the Facility Maintenance Worker performs basic maintenance and repair tasks to maintain Scott County buildings

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assists with semi-skilled routine preventative maintenance and repairs on plumbing, electrical, heating/cooling systems, doors, locks, and mechanical equipment in County facilities.

Participates in grounds maintenance tasks; mows grass; removes weeds, performs work on landscaping projects.

Operates County vehicles, snow plows, lawn equipment, skid steer, fork lift and other motor-driven equipment. Responsible for snow removal and salting on all County owned parking lots, sidewalks and driveways. Responds to snow call- ins as may be necessary.

Works on department moves, relocates furniture, and performs light demolition of work spaces.

Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Standards for Initial Consideration

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND some previous facilities maintenance experience preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.

Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.

Tools, materials, equipment, and basic methods used in facilities maintenance operations and trades.

Skill in:
Operating a variety of hand and power tools.

Using proper personal protective equipment.

Troubleshooting and repairing plumbing, electrical, and heating/cooling systems.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Vehicle and forklift operation, including those with snow equipment

Supplemental Information

License and Certification Requirements
Must possess a valid Driver's license.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work in performed indoors and outdoors at various County facilities, including detention facilities, with inmates present
May be exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures, potentially dangerous tools, equipment, machinery, potential physical harm from inmates, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases.
Required to climb ladders, operate aerial lifts, work in confined spaces, and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Incumbent may be required to be available or "on-call" during off-duty hours.
