Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Network Systems Administrator manages the design, acquisition, installation, configuration, security, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise information technology systems.

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Installs and maintains multiple data storage platforms including, storage area network, network attached storage, and hyper converged systems; installs and maintains servers.

Coordinates updates, outages, maintenance windows, and other potential services impacting activities that could disrupt the availability of County systems.

Maintains and expands the existing backup strategy and infrastructure for operational efficiency, including data staging, recovery, and hardware migration.

Creates and maintains documentation regarding current environment setup, standard operating procedures, and best practices.

Implements and maintains a virtual application, desktop, and server delivery environment; maintains network switches, routers, and wireless access points.

Maintains Active Directory environments to include GPO driven policies and user/group management.

Maintains a configuration management system to assure compliance and adherence to best practices, security policies, and disaster recovery requirements for all systems.

Performs all basic and advanced administrative functions in the Voice over IP system; maintains and supports time keeping hardware and software.

Manages fleet of multifunction copiers and printers to include troubleshooting print driver and formatting issues and deploy printer drivers to client computers with Group Policy.

Manages, deploys, and troubleshoots operating system, applications, and third-party software updates.

Creates, deploys, manages, and troubleshoots client endpoint security, firewall rules and policies, and client desktop encryption; monitors security and syslog events with Security Information Event system

Respond to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests in a timely and complete manner.

Use remote desktop / screen sharing software to quickly and accurately assist end users with issues in order to provide end user guidance and support on a variety of software/hardware platforms.

Evaluate new technology (computers, tablets, phones, routers, switches etc.) for potential implementation on county network.

Project management of new installations and upgrades of existing systems.

Create, modify, and close work orders while performing end user support and troubleshooting of desktop pc, laptop pc, tablet, smartphone, printer, active directory, email, application, wifi, VoIP, analog telco, network and related daily issues.

Provides desktop, laptop, tablet, VoIP, and mobile phone support for County departments and employees along with multiple outside agencies.

Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.

Provides backup duties to the Desktop Support Technician, including helpdesk call handling.

Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Standards for Initial Consideration

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred; AND two (2) years of IT related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.

Customer service methods and practices.

Technical troubleshooting and diagnoses methods and techniques.

Desktop, server, and network and hardware, software, and management tools.

Power Over Ethernet (POE) devices, cloud based networking, and device management.

Skill in:
Providing technical support.

Analyzing, monitoring, and modifying IT systems.

Maintaining the accuracy, confidentiality, and security of information.

Presenting technical information and explaining concepts clearly.

Microsoft and Linux based operation systems including rights/policy management.

Application, desktop, server, and network virtualization technologies.

Microsoft PowerShell scripting, basic programming, and database administration.

Prioritizing and organizing work to complete multiple tasks simultaneously and to meet deadlines.

Developing and maintaining current relevant technology knowledge and skill sets.

Staying current on new network and system techniques as technology and requirements change.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Some field work may be required. Performs on-call duties as required as part of department's duty officer team. May be required to perform system maintenance outside of normal shift hours.
May be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
