Job Summary

Under general supervision, of the Mechanic Supervisor, the Senior Mechanic performs skilled maintenance and repairs on County vehicles and equipment. Assists Mechanics with work activities as needed.

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains all County vehicles and equipment.

Troubleshoots and repairs a variety of equipment.

Performs a variety of preventative maintenance in accordance with established schedules and manufacturer specifications.

Assists with training Mechanics; provides guidance and assistance to Mechanics as needed.

Participates in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of workstations, tools, and shop areas.

Responds to service calls; makes repairs in the field as needed.

Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Standards for Initial Consideration

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND three (3) years of experience repairing and maintaining vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.

Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.

Tools, materials, and equipment used in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.

Mechanical and electrical systems.

Skill in:
Diagnosing and repairing a variety of equipment and vehicles.

Maintaining accurate records and inventories.

Using a variety of hand and power tools.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Supplemental Information

License and Certification Requirements
Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's license.
Must possess A/C certification at the time of hire.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is performed in a mechanical shop and requires exposure to potentially dangerous tools, equipment, and machinery, hazardous chemicals, and hot and cold temperatures.
May be required to lift and move objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
May be required to be available or "on-call" during off-duty hours.
