Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Case Aide interviews clients to determine eligibility for general or other assistance programs and identifies necessary referrals to other agencies. Case Aide may also serve in role of Protective Payee, assisting to pay bills, complete required reports, and manage Social Security funds all month. Collects and exchanges information related to number of cases, status, and amounts of assistance and referrals to outside agencies.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Conducts interviews with clients to determine eligibility for assistance with rent, utilities, medical services, and cremations/burials; reviews answers to accurately develop an understanding of circumstances, resources, and appropriate program areas within or outside the County.

Reviews or obtains documentation to verify elements of eligibility as necessary by contacting other agencies and organizations.

Interprets rules and regulations to identify appropriate funding resources; may recommend exceptions to guidelines to the Case Aide Supervisor/ Director of Disability Services.

Maintains documentation in database and hard files to provide accurate information on client interaction.

Prepares social security reimbursement forms for clients receiving assistance while waiting for approval for the Social Security Program; calculates amount for the County to be reimbursed when client is approved for Social Security.

Utilize effective written and verbal communication skills when communicating with persons from varied socioeconomic backgrounds.

Serves as Protective Payee to individuals receiving Social Security Disability and SSI funds.

Completes reports, on behalf of clients, for state and federal agencies such as IFA, DHS, and SSA

Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Standards for Initial Consideration

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
Associate's degree in Sociology, Psychology, or related field; AND one (1) year of experience in human services; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.

Program resources and eligibility requirements.

Customer service principles, practices, and etiquette.

Records maintenance and retention policies, procedures, and practices.

Skill in:
Operating a computer including standard software and some specialized software.

Maintaining accurate records and filing systems.

Interacting tactfully and professionally with clients, County staff, professionals, and other agencies.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is performed in a standard office environment and throughout the County.
May be exposed to irate persons and potentially contagious illnesses when interacting with clients.
