Job Title: Correctional Health Manager

Under general supervision, the Corrections Health Manager oversees the Correctional Health Service Area of the Scott County Health Department. Creates and maintains a professional and safe environment to assess and treat those incarcerated in Scott County. Schedule is primarily Monday - Friday.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assigns, schedules, and oversees the work of staff; authorizes overtime and leave; participates in recruitment and selection; conducts performance appraisals; provides coaching, counseling and corrective or disciplinary action as appropriate; provides or approves program or department training.
Monitors and approves service area expenses; participates in annual budgeting of department's budget for the Correctional Health Service Area.
Oversees and participates in the direct care and treatment of Scott County inmates; monitors and assists in planning treatments for chronic illnesses; participates in planning treatments and intervention for mental illnesses; serves as back up Correctional Health Nurse.
Facilitates patient assessments with a care provider; reviews data and clarifies any issues with mental health and medical care providers.
Administers quality assurance by conducting audits and review of cases, test results, files, and databases; monitors staff licensing and certifications to ensure all in compliance with requirements.
Reviews kiosk generated medical requests from inmates; obtains orders as needed and generates responses to inmates; follows up on emails and meets with inmates as appropriate; assists staff with reviewing and managing cases and requests.
Develops and maintains service area and departmental policies, procedures, standing orders, and plans.
Attends and participates in a variety of internal and external meetings, councils, and committees.
Participates in department efforts related to accreditation/reaccreditation, performance management, quality improvement, and workforce development.
Maintains documents and files; updates database information to document program activities.
Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field; AND five (5) years of nursing experience, which includes some supervisory responsibilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master's level degree preferred.
Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
Supervisory principles and practices.
Records maintenance and retention policies, procedures, and practices.
Customer service principles, practices, and etiquette.
Physical assessment tools and proper uses.
Mental health illnesses and behavior.
Disease transmission, prevention methods, and treatment.
Practices and procedures for preparing and distributing prescription medications.

Handling and maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Working on multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines.
Providing effective supervision, leadership, and direction.
Interacting tactfully and professionally with County staff, outside agencies, and the public.

Maintaining accurate records and documentation.
Assessing the mental and physical health of individuals and identifying treatment needs.
Operating a computer including standard software and some specialized software.
Maintaining composure in stressful situations.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
License and Certification Requirements
Must be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) at the time of hire.
Must maintain a First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification within 3 months of hire
Must possess a Mandatory Reporter certificate or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is performed in Scott County correctional facilities and requires exposure to potentially violent inmates, hazardous chemicals, contagious illnesses, and infectious diseases.
May be required to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
