Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Conservation Director, the Pioneer Village Site Coordinator plans and implements all activities for site events, day camp, Soda Fountain operations, tours of the museum buildings and grounds, and rental of church facilities. Recruits, trains, and mentors employees and volunteers. Creates and maintains exhibits within the open-air museum that encompasses Dan Nagle Walnut Grove Pioneer Village.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Plans and manages site events; books all vendors; recruits and leads the activities of volunteers and assigned employees; creates advertising materials and posts in newspapers, social media sites, and on all online calendars; maintains budgets and for all purchase receipts; collects, counts, inputs, and completes deposits from all funds generated from the church rental, day camp, tours, Soda Fountain sales, and donations.

Develops, researches, and implements interpretive displays in buildings, historical exhibits, videos, and power point presentations for kiosk in buildings; oversees the maintenance and care of all artifacts in buildings; maintains budgets and all purchases.

Creates detailed day camp activity schedules for children attending camp; recruits, hires, trains, supervises, mentors, and evaluates part-time summer employees including camp counselors and soda fountain staff; serves as point of contact for all interactions with parents and staff; maintains budget; makes all craft and food purchases for camp; provides back-up services for lead camp counselor's daily tasks and others as needed.

Creates and maintains procedures for the Soda Fountain's cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety; provides training to all Soda Fountain employees on these food safety procedures, daily food preparations, delivery tasks, and good customer practices; manages all purchasing, inventory control, and storage of all food and gifts items for sale.

Receives and processes requests for church rentals; creates and maintains website for church rentals; creates brochures, flyers, and ads for church rental promotion; provides informational tours of the church and grounds to customers prior to their rental date; maintains the cleanliness of the church between rentals.

Conducts and schedules tours; recruits volunteers and personnel; develops tour itinerary and delivers historical interpretive information to guests; represents Scott County Conservation by presenting talks to organizations; serves as a member of the Quad-Cities Museum group and with other museums.

Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Standards for Initial Consideration

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines
Bachelor's degree in History, Museum Studies, or related field; AND four (4) years of museum management or event planning which includes some supervisory responsibilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of:
Inventory management and purchasing practices and methods.

Customer service principles, practices, and etiquette.

Supervisory principles and practices.

Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.

Safe food handling practices and methods.

Budgeting practices and procedures.

Skill in:
Monitoring and maintaining inventories.

Supervising assigned staff.

Delivering informational presentations and tours to groups of varying size, age, and background.

Managing budgets.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Supplemental Information

License and Certification Requirements
Must possess a ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
Must maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.

Physical Demands and Working Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment, and both indoors and outdoors while providing programming, tours, events, and building and grounds maintenance throughout the Pioneer Village Site.
