Under general supervision, the Fine Collections Specialist performs a variety of tasks associated with the collection of delinquent fines including case research, court attendance, preparation of documents, and pleadings.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Processes applications for the Driver's License Program and payment plans; calculates amounts owed in fines and determines down payment amount based on a percentage of what individual owes in fines; files paperwork and maintains related records.
Processes card payments for individuals; assists walk-in customers by responding to inquiries and assisting with the completion of paperwork.
Sends out collection letters to notify individuals of delinquent fine payments; researches the employment status of individuals with delinquent fines and sends verification letters to employers; files paperwork to implement wage garnishments if eligible; submits garnishment paperwork to Sheriff's Office to be served.
Runs reports of program participants to determine accounts with unpaid fines; makes courtesy calls to remind individuals of payments due; files appropriate paperwork on EDMS to send re-suspend notices to the Iowa Department of Transportation if fines are not payed within allotted time.

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
Associate's degree in Business, Law Enforcement, or related field; AND three (3) years of accounting or administrative assistant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
General office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Records maintenance policies and procedures.
Basic accounting and bookkeeping practices.
Legal terminology.
Skill in:
Maintaining accurate records, documentation, and filing systems.
Completing basic mathematic calculations.
Conducting research.
Interacting tactfully and professionally with County staff, outside agencies, and the public.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
