The Friends of Walnut Grove Pioneer Village exists as a volunteer organization to promote the history of Walnut Grove Pioneer Village in Scott County, Iowa.

The Friends volunteer group, under the guidance of the Scott County Conservation Board supports the events, workshops, school groups, bus tours, and the displays in Walnut Grove Pioneer Village by having trained crafts people performing tasks of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. These crafts include, but are not limited to, blacksmithing, weaving, spinning, carpentry, pottery, basket making, and other numerous tasks of this period in Scott County.

The Friends group provides the main support for the spring Heritage Days event, the Village Fall Festival, and the Annual Christmas Walk in the Village. These events will encompass the craft people along with volunteers manning the buildings, the concessions, and assisting with games and children’s crafts. The volunteers also assist in decorating the Village for these events. The Friends provide educational workshops to the Villages’ Summer Day Camp program and the public in the folk art and history of Scott County, Iowa.

As a tax-exempt organization, the group can raise funds which the Pioneer Village uses for special projects and education material purchases.
