Did you know that the Iowa tick season starts in April? Ticks are common throughout the summer and often become less of a problem after cooler weather arrives. Ticks come in a variety of colors, sizes, and shapes. Some carry illness and disease so it’s important to check pets and people for ticks after being outside.

The Quad Cities communities are working together to increase bicycle and pedestrian safety. It’s important to remember that safety is the highest priority on all Quad Cities trails.

Due to a locally acquired case of measles not linked to other known cases in Eastern Iowa on Monday, July 14, 2025, an accelerated MMR vaccination schedule is strongly recommended.

On June 27th, National HIV Testing Day, Scott County Health Department will be providing free rapid HIV and hepatitis C (HCV) testing and counseling at Walgreens located at 1720 W Kimberly Road in Davenport from 10 AM to 6 PM.

The flu shot can prevent you from getting sick in the first place, but it can also reduce the severity of illness in people who do still get sick. We are excited to announce the release of the 2023 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) for the Scott County and Rock Island County Health Departments! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic interrupting the implementation of the 2019 CHIP, community partners decided to transition several strategies and activities to this CHIP for all priority areas: mental health, nutrition, physical activity, and weight, and access to healthcare. This plan will help guide the collaborative efforts taking place over the next three years to improve the health of our community. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (IHHS) announced a new initiative to provide naloxone (the opioid overdose reversal medication) to Iowa organizations, businesses, and schools, in the event that their employees, agents, or volunteers encounter someone experiencing a suspected opioid overdose. Having this medication available could save someone's life.

COVID-19 Community Levels are a new tool to help communities decide what prevention steps to take based on the latest data.

Beginning Friday, June 24, 2022, TestIowa kits can no longer be dropped off at Scott County Health Department to be transported to the State Hygienic Lab for analysis. Individuals can still pick up kits from the Health Department, but must return them at a UPS drop-off location.
