Flood Safety

During flooding:

  • Do not walk, swim, or drive through flood waters; 6 inches of fast-moving water can sweep you away.
  • Do not drink, cook, or wash clothing with flood waters.
  • Stay away from downed power lines.
  • Be aware of slips, trips, and falls near flooded areas.
  • Be aware that the potential for flash flooding exists near rivers and streams.
  • If you use a private water well, review these flooded private well recommendations: https://www.epa.gov/sites/default/files/2015-05/documents/epa816f05021.pdf
