Presumptive Eligibility

Presumptive Eligibility is temporary Medicaid health insurance that starts the same day that you apply.  It helps you to do things like go to the doctor or fill a prescription, while you wait for the Iowa Department of Human Services to review your application for ongoing Medicaid or Hawki coverage.

The Care for Kids program at the Scott County Health Department can help local families on Iowa Medicaid and Hawki with connecting to:

  • Health care providers taking their health insurance (like doctors, dentists, vision care providers, and other specialists)
  • Health insurance resources (like who to call for rides to appointments, where to get a replacement insurance card, and who to contact for billing questions)
  • Community resources (like food pantries, child care assistance, and heating assistance)
