The Quad Cities’ Food Rescue Partnership announces a Food Rescue Workshop taking place October 4, 2018 in Davenport, IA.
In the U.S., we’re throwing away 40% of our food. Yet, 21,590 people in Scott County and 17,330 people in Rock Island County are food insecure, not knowing where they will be getting their next meal.
The Food Rescue Partnership aims to reduce the amount of food going into our local landfills and rescue it for alternative options. “Many Quad Cities organizations have already partnered with us,” says Pete Vogel, Food Rescue Partnership Board Chair. “This workshop is an opportunity to share their successes and processes in order to both spur and support other food rescue initiatives by simply and easily duplicating these efforts.”
The workshop agenda will include information about food waste, as well as representatives from local establishments including Baked Bread and Beer Co., Augustana College, as well as industry professionals available to answer questions on liability and tax deductions.
The workshop will take place at the Freight House in Davenport, IA. There is no cost to attend, and the workshop hopes to draw professional food establishments and retail food store owners, managers, and chefs. Registration and more information is at https://foodrescueqc.org/events/.
