Health Requirements & Recommendations for School Enrollment

The State of Iowa requires that students meet certain health criteria prior to school enrollment.  The School Health Consultant provides assistance to schools and parents to ensure that these requirements are met.  The School Health Consultant also makes recommendations for best practices related to managing student health in the school setting.

School Registration and Kindergarten Round-Up: The nurse attends registrations in the fall and/or Kindergarten round-up in the spring per school request.  Services include collection of immunization and health records, distribution of medication administration forms, and distribution of health information to parents and students.

Health Record Coordination: The School Health Consultant reviews student health records and initiates individual health plans when appropriate.

Preparation for Dental and Immunization Audit: The School Health Consultant reviews records each fall to prepare the school for the annual dental and immunization audits conducted by the Scott County Health Department.  The School Health Consultant also evaluates compliance with state requirements and contacts parents to obtain required information.  If a student has not met mandated record requirements, the School Health Consultant notifies the principal who is ultimately responsible for compliance requirements.
