COVID-19 Guidance for Positive Cases and Contacts

The Iowa Department of Public Health's Epi Manual updated it's COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) Guidance in August 2021 to provide the latest recommendations for controlling further spread and preventing disease.  Recommendations for handling positive cases and contacts (vaccinated and unvaccinated) can be found in this document:

Employers can use these strategies to limit exposures to COVID-19:

  • Actively encourage employees to stay home if they are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19:
  • Give employees, customers, and visitors what they need to clean their hands and cover their coughs and sneezes
  • Perform routine environmental cleaning
  • Allow employees to work from home if possible; plan for extended working from home
  • Protect employees at higher risk for severe illness through supportive policies and practices
  • Implement social distancing for those at work:
    • Increase physical space between onsite workers
    • Stagger work schedules
    • Limit in-person meetings
  • Ensure flexible leave policies for staff who need to stay home to care for others
  • Limit travel and advise employees if they must travel to take additional precautions and preparations
